Defence guide:

Pure defence guide:
WARNING THIS METHOD IS EXTREMELY SLOW, ALLOW FOR A HUGE AMOUNT OF YOUR TIME TO DO THIS AND YOU MUST HAVE EXTREMELY HIGH PATIENCE.

If you’re interested in just defence, which maybe your thing, here’s how to do it.

The first way is to simply kill rats until you reach 10-15 defence and then from there onwards kill Monks in the monastery. Monks are a brilliant training method because u will be only hitting a one and they continuously heal themselves meaning never ending exp on one Monk. Now this can be done all the way until level 99 this is if u want the extra hp levels.

The other way is to repeat the first process but then when you reach 40 combat (Should be around 90 defence) you should go to pc because 40 is the minimum combat requirement for pc. Now it may seem like, “Oh I have 1 attack and 1 strength, how on earth can I ever earn points?” see this is the magic about it, you don’t have to do any fighting whatsoever, simply repair doors and barricades with a hammer, that way you earn zeal in battle and earn pc points! No fighting required. This way is quicker than the monks but again, incredibly boring, you need a lot of patience.

Normal defence guide:

Train your stats anyway you see fit to whatever level you see fit but I should say at the absolute minimum, be level 70 in both attack and strength first.

There are 5 Main methods of raising your defence to 99, Bandits, Dagganoths, Skeletons, Pest Control and finally Slayer.

For bandits there are two training methods, the most exp effective way is to use the pub, using prayer potions to continuously keep pro melee up because if you don’t lower defence and even higher defence will be killed reasonably quickly, 4-6 level 74’s is not fun, trust me. Exp in here at the minimum requirements for attack and strength is at maximum 50-55k and only goes up the higher levels you have.
The other method for Bandits is to kill the level 57’s in different spots of the camp, there are 4 spots 3 of which are commonly known the other is often overlooked and empty. The best spot for exp this way is the south hut, 3 bandits come for you only, 2 hit you at the same time so you aren’t going to get hit as much, this spot is often taken by a reasonably higher level. Just east of that is a small tent, in there are 2 level 57 bandits, these will attack you one at a time, meaning less hits on you, but also less exp.
North of that small tent is another hut which again has 2 bandits, the same applies here as with the small tent. The last most uncommon spot is four steps east of the torch that stands just outside the pub on the northern side of the entrance, stand here and 2 will come at once, these respawn slightly faster and therefore you get more exp. For the level 57’s, do not bother with prayer potions, bring noted food such as cakes, that are cheap to sell to the store and buy back, you must bring at least 1000 noted food and 30k cash, this way you can last much much longer. Also for them to attack you aggressively the whole time, wearing something of saradomin or zamorak is a definite must. The armour you choose is up to you. The exp for these bandits varies between 30-50k an hour.

Dagganoths

To use this training method, you must have completed “Horror from the deep” Quest. You must make your way over the stepping stones towards the lighthouse, which are a major pain, down into the cellar into the cave where you fought the dagganoths for the quest. You will find there are multiple dagganoths, some in the level 70’s, others in the 90’s, prayer potions and pro range is a huge must, you must have this on or you will get killed, and not last anywhere near as long as you’d like to have done, some will also use melee but range is the most often form of attack so a few sharks in the inventory should suffice. They will attack you aggressively and you will get into a flow of exp, there are no specific spots, just stand well away from the next person. Exp here is again between 50-60k an hour. Super sets are also a good option here as well but not essential, they do take up room for where prayer potions could go so you may not last as long as you’d hoped again. You can take noted food and pots because Jossik who is 3 levels up from the caves is a general store and you can buy and sell your noted items to and from him. (Recommend dagganoths- higher levels)

Skeletons

This training method requires you have reached the stage in desert treasure where you have KILLED Damis, you must have killed him otherwise he might appear whilst you’re training, which won’t be fun. The skeletons are in the level 80’s and rather huge. Prayer again here is a good option and also super sets. Pro melee is the prayer here, you will also find random rats, just ignore them and concentrate on the skeletons. These have very good experience, and not many players use them, however stand away from those players that are. They are constantly aggressive again, although the closest bank is fishing guild so you may have to keep returning there to restock or if u want to save a tiny bit of time, use Rasolo’s store although I don’t recommend it, use the guild bank, it saves a lot of money on buying pots back. Exp at the skeletons is usually 50-60k…although can reach above 70k an hour.

The time taken for 99 defence using these methods can be less than 5-6 weeks. Depending on how much you play a day.
guthans is a brilliant way to train at these locations because of its healing special, rather than having to bring noted food.

Pest control

WARNING, AFTER USING THIS METHOD YOU WILL LOSE OUT ON MANY HP LEVELS.

Pc is not as quick as the other methods, but a lot more interesting and less mind numbing. There are certain worlds, and clans who do pc for different levels, I suggest going into the highest boat for your level and strongly recommend finding a pc clan, therefore winning as many games as possible and getting as much exp in the quickest time. 250 pc points is the maximum amount of points that one person can get and I suggest getting just 200 because that way you can get the bonus per 100 points, rather than 2 100 bonus and 1 50 bonus. I shan’t explain how to do pc, it is pretty self explanatory when you reach the island, and squires will explain the game to you anyway.

The time for 99 defence using pc varies because it depends on the amount of games you win in a day.

Slayer

Other people prefer to train defence using slayer, in this way you can train three different stats at once, Slayer, Hp and Defence. The different tasks also give a huge variety to your training, taking the mindnumbingness to a minimal level. However because of this variety the length of time for 99 can vary so much it’d be foolish to try and put even an estimate on the length of time it will take. However slayer is a fantastic way to train defence if you cannot bear having to kill the same thing over again, and you’re a slayer addict.

99 Defence Attributes

Having 99 defence makes you a valuable team member to a God wars team, a tank.
Having 99 does not make you invincible, you will still get hit, you aren’t made of titanium.
